Nepal Government Imposes Indefinite Curfew In Kanchanpur District

An indefinite curfew has been imposed by the Nepal Government in the Kanchanpur District since Friday night. This comes after a minor was killed in an open firing by the police.

The tension on Kanchanpur increased after a 14 year old child was caught in the police firing. Five other people were injured in the firing. Chief District Officer of Kanchanpur Taranath Adhikari reported, “The curfew is in order and will not be lifted until further notice.”

The security officials and the administrative officers have refused to respond to the media’s questions. The locals of the district have been protesting for justice after a 13 year old girl was brutally raped and murdered nearly two months ago.

The minor girl was found in a sugarcane farm on the 26th of July. Two former Prime Minister of Nepal, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Pushpa Kamal Dahal requested the incumbent PM K. P. Sharma to take immediate action.

Former PM Deuda tweeted, “I am saddened by the death of a child in police firing in Kanchanpur. My prayers are with the family of the deceased child and I demand Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to immediately investigate the issue.”
