The Election Commission of India (ECI,) announced, the 18th of April is the last day for filing nominations for the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections across India.
According to the ECI, the Returning Officers (ROs) will submit the candidates’ nomination papers by the 18th of April. The RO’s offices of all the constituencies where the elections will be held during the second phase will be open till 3:00 P.M.
Approximately 7 states are contesting the Lok Sabha elections in the fifth phase, on the 6th of May.
The states contesting in the 5th phase of the Lok Sabha elections are :
Bihar (5 seats,) Jammu and Kashmir (2 seats,) Jharkhand (4 seats,) Madhya Pradesh (7 seats,) Rajasthan (12 seats,) Uttar Pradesh (14 seats) and West Bengal (7 seats.)
Speaking about the selection process of the nominations filed, the ROs are trained to scrutinise the nomination papers.
The Lok Sabha elections started from the 11th of April and will continue till the 19th of May.
On the 11th of April, approximately 20 states contested the Lok Sabha elections.
The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC.)
The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
