The Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 5th of March, officially announced, there will be no alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP.)

Rahul Gandhi, the President of the INC, on the 5th of March, around 12:00 P.M., called for a meeting with the leaders of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC.)

Sheila Dikshit, the DPCC Chief, said, “It is final that there will be no alliance with AAP. Mr. Gandhi has accepted the decision. The Congress will go it alone in all seven seats in Delhi and win.”

Speaking about the reason, Ms. Dikshit said, the AAP already announced the names of the candidates contesting the elections, eliminating the possibility of an alliance. However, the INC is ready to negotiate the seat sharing formula for the upcoming elections.

The other reason highlighted was the demand regarding the number of seats. The INC wanted to contest 3 seats, whereas the AAP offered only 2 seats to the INC.

A senior party leader of the INC said, “We are a national party capable of winning the election in Delhi all by ourselves. Why should we fight only on one or two seats?”

The meeting lasted for two hours and was attended by top leaders of the DPCC, such as Ajay Maken, Sheila Dikshit and Rahul Gandhi.

The AAP claimed, Rahul Gandhi called for the meeting, as the other anti Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parties were pressuring him to form an alliance.

The Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress (TMC,) the N. Chandrababu Naidu led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Sharad Pawar led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) initiated the idea of the pre poll alliance.

The idea was initiated to remove the BJP from power and fight against them in the Lok Sabha elections.

The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled between April and May 2019 and the major parties contesting are the INC and the BJP.

Stay tuned for further updates about the Lok Sabha elections.
