Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, a Member of Parliament (MP) candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) on the 26th of April, filed his nomination to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Varanasi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

In honour of Mr. Modi, the BJP workers in Varanasi organised a grand show in Uttar Pradesh. He also visited the Kali Bhairav temple in Uttar Pradesh, following which, he filed his nomination.

Amit Shah, the President of the BJP, Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, Uddhav Thackrey, the President of the Shiv Sena, along with the leaders and followers of the BJP, accompanied Mr. Modi till the Collector’s office.

Mr. Modi submitted his nomination papers to the Returning Officer (RO) of the Varanasi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Mr. Modi took to Twitter and conveyed messages to people who came to support Mr. Modi while submitting his nomination papers.

Mr. Modi will contest against Ajay Rai, the MP contestant of the Varanasi constituency representing the Indian National Congress (INC.)

Uttar Pradesh will contest a total of 80 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, divided into 7 phases. Out of the 80 seats, the State contested a total of 28 seats on the 11th, 18th and the 23rd of April, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd phases of the elections.

The polling for the remaining 52 seats will be conducted in 4 phases, scheduled on the 29th of April, 6th of May, 12th of May and the 19th of May 2019.

The major parties contesting the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections are the Indian National Congress (INC,) the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the grand alliance of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP.)

The results of the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
