Major fire guts 300 slum dwellings in Delhi

New Delhi: A major fire broke out at Mangolpuri in outer Delhi. Nearly 300 ‘jhuggis’ (slum dwellings) were gutted in the fire mishap. The incident occurred during the wee hours of Monday. The people managed to escape from the accident and a person sustained minor injuries, according to police. With this massive fire accident, as many as 1,500 people have been left homeless.

After receiving the information, the fire tenders rushed to the spot and controlled the flames. The officials were ordered to provide immediate relief to the residents of the slum.

According to reports, the fire broke out at around 2 am on Monday. The fire spread very quickly due to the presence of flammable products in the dwellings. Short circuit is suspected to be the reason behind the mishap. But still an official announcement is awaited. Police investigation is underway.
