The Supreme Court (SC,) on the 25th of March, dismissed a petition, which sought a ban on roadshows and bike rallies, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

A bench of two, constituted by Ranjan Gogoi, the Chief Justice of India (CJI,) and Justice Deepka Gupta, reviewed the petition and refused to hear it.

CJI Gogoi said, “We are not inclined to entertain this.”

Vikram Singh, a former Director General Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, filed the petition against roadshows, bike rallies and campaigns, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

In his petition, Vikram Singh and Shaivika Agarwal, said, the rallies and roadshows organised by political parties go against the Model Code of Conduct (MCC,) released by the Election Commission of India (ECI.)

The petitioners also asked the SC to order the ECI to take action against the political parties conducting rallies and roadshows, as these actions are causing damage to the environment.

The political parties are conducting rallies and campaigns as a part of their campaign strategies, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections across India.

The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to begin from the 11th of April and will continue till the 19th of May 2019.

The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be declared on the 23rd of May 2019.
