In Telangana’s Nizamabad district 11 people including 6 children lost their lives when an autorickshaw fell into a well. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon between Mupkal and Mendora.
The auto driver survived the accident and was taken into police custody. The local media reported there were a total of 19 people traveling in the auto out of whom 8 survived. A crane was used to pull out the ones who survived the tragic accident.
Eyewitnesses stated the auto driver’s rash driving led to the fatal accident. However, the area has been prone to accidents but authorities fail to put up cautionary boards. The well the auto fell in is an open well right next to one of the roads.
Nizamabad CP Karthikeya and Collector Ram Mohan supervised the rescue operations. The bodies were taken to Armoor Government Hospital for a post mortem.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and Minister for Agriculture Pocharam Srinivas Reddy expressed their grief over the unfortunate accident.
