PM Modi App NaMo Changes Privacy Settings

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s app NaMo changed its privacy settings after data leak accusation. Initially, the app stated all the information accessed by the app would be kept confidential. However, the app now says certain information will be shared to give the user a better experience.

This accusation gave way for a Twitter war between the Congress and the BJP. Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi took the first dig at PM Modi and tweeted, “Hi! My name is Narendra Modi. I am India’s Prime Minister. When you sign up for my official App, I give all your data to my friends in American companies.”

French security researcher Elliot Alderson wrote a report that stated the app shares user data with a third party. According to Alderson, once an Indian citizen connects to the app information from their device details like name, location, device info and email get sent to a third party domain.

The BJP denied the accusation in a series of tweets and most of them ridiculing Rahul Gandhi. The tweets stated Gandhi was attempting to scare the public away from technology while his party takes stolen data from Cambridge Analytica.
