Ritesh Roy, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, was found dead, on the 11th of February, in West Bengal.
According to sources, Ritesh, 45 years old, was missing since the 7th of February. The police found his body in a bush beside a highway, 2 km away from Dadpur village in Hooghly, West Bengal.
Ritesh Roy was the chairman of a cooperative society in the Marishda village, East Midnapur district, West Bengal. He was also the President of three gram panchayat samithis in the Kanthi village of East Midnapur district.
After Ritesh’s body was found by police officers, he was taken to Chuchura Imambara Hospital, where a doctor declared him dead. His body was sent for an autopsy.
A police official said, “There are two external injury marks on Roy’s throat and eye. Post mortem report said he was killed by strangulation.”
Mahua Roy, Ritesh’s wife, filed a missing report at the Marshida Police Station, when Ritesh did not come back home. She said, he was last seen on the 7th of February. He said he was going to Kolaghat for some work, but later, at 9:00 P.M., on the same day, he said, he is leaving for Malda with his friend.
Mrs. Roy said, she did not receive any information about her husband and filed a missing complaint regarding the same.
The TMC members suspect, a few leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are behind Riteish Roy’s death. Roy was also a part of the TMC workers’ group who were affected by the violence triggered during Amit Shah’s BJP rally in Kanthi, last month.
Kanishka Panda, the TMC Secretary of Purba Medinipur, said, “The BJP has conspired to kill him.” However, Mahesh Sur, the Kanthi Mandal Chief of the BJP, declined the allegations and said, “The BJP will never do such a thing. This might be a conspiracy of TMC leaders in Kanthi or a case of infighting.”
The killing is said to be a political conspiracy, however, there is no evidence to support the same. The TMC leaders and the family of the victim demanded a strict action against the murderer.
The police filed a case and an investigation is underway.
