On Tuesday, a 17 year old girl was swept into the sea during high tide at Marine Drive, Mumbai. The girl was identified as Preeti Shrikrishna Pise, was swept away while trying to touch the high rising waves, slipping into the sea.
The Mumbai police denied rumors that the girl fell while trying to click a selfie during the high tide.
The police have also sent out a warning to people who are visiting Marine Drive during high tide.
Mumbaikars flocked at Marine Drive on Tuesday to watch the high tide, with waves measured as high as 4.81 meters. Sunday recorded the highest in the season with 5.02 meters.
On the same day, a young boy was also believed to have drowned in Mahim creek. The search for the boy is still underway.
A senior police inspector from Marine Drive police station, Vilas Gangawane said, “The Marine Drive promenade was crowded and we were constantly making announcements about the high tide.”
The heavy rains in Mumbai resulted in water logging in multiple places in the city. Many locals took to social media to complain about the heavy rains flooding up roads causing inconvenience to the people of the city.
A resident from Matunga, Nikhil Desai said, “It rained for half an hour and several locations were flooded. Why is the BMC claiming to be monsoon ready every year when it is clearly not.”
