Unnao Rape Case: BJP Lawmaker Sengar Yet To Be Arrested

BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Singh Sengar has still not been arrested even after a case was filed against the Minister for raping a 15 year old girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao. The Police and State Government defended the delay in the action and stated the Government was not attempting to save anyone.

The Minister has been charged with sexual crimes against children after a teenager alleged she was raped by him 9 months ago. The police were asked when the lawmaker would be arrested to this they stated the case was handed to the CBI for further investigation.

This case became public after the teenager attempted to kill herself outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s house on Sunday. The girl accused the State Government of protecting the accused lawmaker. The case got serious when the girl’s father was killed in custody after being beaten up by the lawmaker’s brother. The BJP lawmaker’s brother has been arrested but the main accused is still free.

The Police justified the delay in filing the case on the basis that there were discrepancies in the teenager’s statement.

The Police Chief O. P. Singh said, “The victim said she was scared therefore didn’t mention rape in her first complaint…The SIT (Special Investigation Team) took this into consideration and then registered the complaint against the legislator.”

Last night, the accused lawmaker Sengar visited Police Chief Singh’s house in Lucknow. After the midnight drama, the State Government ordered a case against the lawmaker. The Government also directed the police to transfer the case to the CBI.
