21 killed, 10 wounded in gun battle at wedding in Afghanistan

Kabul: Atleast 21 people were killed and 10 others were wounded in a gun battle during a wedding on Sunday night in Afghanistan, according to reports. On Monday, the officials said that the incident took place on Sunday night when two groups opened fire at a wedding in Andarab district. However, the bride and groom survived the attack.

The governor of Baghlan province, Jaweed Basharat said that the victims were all male guests aged from 14 years old to 60 years old. Col. Gulistan Qasani, the police chief of Andarab, said that the groups, which involved in the fight, had been simmering for many years and the gun battle took place when a relative of a provincial police official was killed during a party at the wedding.

The official said that nearly 400 guests were gathered for the wedding and it was difficult for them to collect the bodies and identify them. Investigation is underway and further details are awaited.
