The United States dropped a massive non-nuclear bomb on the ISIS camps in Afghanistan. According to Afghan Officials, the number of militants killed in the attack has tripled and reached 90. Dubbed as the ‘Mother of All Bombs’, GBU-43/B was used in combat for the first time in the Nangarhar province.

The bomb was positioned so as to hit the mountain hideouts. The tunnel and cave camps that were positioned so as to keep ground attacks at bay were hit and led to the death of 90. Esmail Shinwari, the district governor of Achin, said to the media that “At least 92 Daesh (IS) fighters were killed in the bombing.” Attaullah Khogyani, the spokesperson of Nangarhar province said that the death toll was 90.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the officials, the number was 36. But this number tripled overnight and reached 90. It also has been declared that there were no military and civilian casualties. The ISIS has built their hideouts near civilization in attempts to use the localities as a shield. But due to the increased fighting in the recent past, most of them have fled the area.
This bomb was dropped by the US as their advances in the past months have been vain and American Special Forces soldier was killed in Nangarhar province last Saturday. The soldier was a part of Anti-ISIS operation.

While the President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, supported this attack, those close to him condemned this attack. They said that Afghanistan cannot be used as a testing ground as the IS has a minor establishment in the country. IS has made their base in Afganistan in recent years with the support of Pakistani and Afghan Taliban and also the Islamists of Uzbekistan. But over time, by the force of US air strikes and ground attacks by the Afghan forces, ISIS has lost many of its bases in the country.
