On Friday, a student, Mashal Khan, was murdered in Pakistan on allegations of Blasphemy. The Nobel Laureate and UN Peace Ambassador Malala Yousafzai urged the state institutions in the Country to shed their silence. She also said political parties should speak up against such issues and provide justice to the victim and his family.
Malala, in a video through Facebook expressed her opinion after speaking to Mashal Khan’s father over the phone. She said that few people of Pakistan have forgotten that Islam preaches the following of peace. She said, “This was not just the funeral of Mashal Khan, it was the funeral of the message of our religion, Islam. This is an incident filled with terror and fear.”
Malala speaking about the Prophet Mohammed, has never preached that his followers should be, “be impatient and go around killing people.” Expressing her regret, Malala said that people have forgotten religion’s values and are not truly representing Islam. She also said that the Islamophobia that spread through the West is as few are ”maligning the name of Islam.” Malala stressed that “No one is maligning the name of your country or religion…we ourselves are bringing a bad name to our Country and religion.”
Malala has always spoken her mind despite threats of death from Islamic State Jihadis. She also became the youngest Peace Ambassador for UN in the last fortnight. Malala stressed for people to understand Islam, those following it should represent it in the right way.
