Mexico was hit by a massive earthquake measured at 7.1 magnitude on Tuesday. At present, 139 people have been reported to have died.

The devastating earthquake collapsed at least 44 buildings according to the Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera.

There was havoc in most parts of Mexico as residents, Marines, medical volunteers frantically scavenged through the rubble to rescue people trapped.

The earthquake hit Mexico just two weeks after an 8.1 magnitude quake struck the Pacific coast of Southern Mexico.

The President of Mexico, Enrique Pena Nieto was on his way to Oaxaca to check on the previous earthquake just to hear news of another one. The President turned around and went back to the capital and convened a national emergency council meeting.

Residents were terrified as the roads were moving like waves and there seemed to be no place to hide. A number of residents were seen weeping and running for help on the streets as officials helped as many civilians as possible.

The quake hit on the day of the anniversary of the 1985 earthquake in Mexico that killed thousands of people.
