Brussels attacks: 1 suspect on run, 2 brothers as suicide bombers

The deadly attacks in the Brussels claimed the lives of nearly 31 people and also wounded several others on Tuesday. The chief prosecutor of Belgium on Wednesday said that the two brothers – Khalid and Ibrahim El Bakraoui carried out the attacks in the airport and they are the Islamic State suicide bombers. The prosecutor also added that another prime suspect in the explosions was on the run.

At a press conference, the Belgian federal prosecutor said that the 29-year-old Ibrahim El Bakraoui blew himself up at the airport and an hour later, his 27-year-old brother El Bakraoui detonated a bomb on a metro train near the European Commission headquarters.

The prosecutor said that with the help of fingerprints and security cameras, the brothers were identified and added that the second suicide bomber had yet to be identified. The prosecutor did not name the third suspect but said that he had installed the bomb and then ran out of the terminal before the explosions.

According to the Belgian media, the attacker of Brussels airport – Najim Laachraoui (25), who is a bomb maker and suspected Islamic State recruiter. His DNA was found on two explosives belts used in the Paris attacks and at a Brussels safe house used by Abdeslam. The prosecutor said that he had travelled with Paris attacks prime suspect Salah Abdeslam to Hungary in September.
