The Federal Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday decided to investigate the killing of an Indian in Olathe, Kansas as a hate crime. The FBI said, “Based upon the initial investigative activity, the FBI, in conjunction with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, is investigating this incident as a hate crime.”
The Bureau also said, “The FBI will continue to work jointly with Olathe Police Department and our state and local partners regarding this ongoing investigation.” This statement is the first step by the US authorities about the killing of Srinivas kuchibhotla in regard to the hate crime. The eye witness present stated this as an alleged hate crime and a racial attack.
Eye witnesses to this incident at Austin’s Bar and Grille, Olathe that occurred on February 22 said that the killer Adam Purinton allegedly screamed ”Get out of my Country” and ”terrorists” as he opened fire on Srinivas and his friend Alok Madasani. The third victim was an American who tried to stop the crime. Srinivas died on his way to the hospital and Alok is on the mend. Both the victims hail from Hyderabad and Srinivas’s funeral rites were carried out at the Jubilee Hills Maha Prasthanam in Hyderabad city on Wednesday.
