Global energy needs and trade links remain major concerns for many countries. India also depends on steady supplies of oil, gas and other key goods. These issues will take centre stage at an important meeting in the United States.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Atlanta on Thursday to attend the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on October 30 and 31.
The meeting will focus on energy security, supply chains and safe sea routes. These issues matter to India because it imports large amounts of oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and fertilisers.
Jaishankar will also attend a Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with representatives from the United States, Japan and Australia. He is also set to hold talks with several foreign ministers.
The discussions will look at ways to deal with supply problems and the impact of global tensions on trade and energy access.
After the Atlanta meetings, Jaishankar will travel to Antigua and Barbuda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting from November 1 to 4.
