Major Earthquake Jolts Indonesia’s Lombok

A strong earthquake with magnitude 6.2 rattled the Indonesian island of Lombok on Thursday, according to the United States Geological Survey. So far, no immediate casualties or damages have been reported. The earthquake hit 234 km (145 miles) south of Lombok at a depth of 29 km (18 miles). According to officials, the quake did not trigger a Tsunami alert.

The quake jolted the Indonesian resort island of Bali and created panic among the tourists. A spokesman of Indonesia’s Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said that the quake was very strong with tremors lasting for three to four seconds.
