Nepal PM’s India Visit Takes Shape

India and Nepal share close ties through trade, travel, energy and cultural links. Regular talks between the two countries help them discuss shared interests and improve cooperation.

Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah is set to visit India for three days from November 22, according to officials. It will be his first official bilateral visit to India since he took office in March.

The visit took shape after Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Shah in Kathmandu on Thursday. Misri also conveyed an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During the recent talks, both sides discussed areas of cooperation, including water resources, energy, trade, transport links and aviation. Officials also discussed possible outcomes and new steps ahead of Shah’s visit.

Shah said he was looking for a result-focused visit, according to officials. He also thanked India and Modi for their support after floods affected Nepal in August.

The visit is expected to give both countries an opportunity to review their ties and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation.
