Telangana Prepares for a Major Village-Level Drive

Water resources play an important role in farming and daily life across Telangana. With the next monsoon season approaching, the state is looking at ways to improve water storage and protect existing sources.

The government is planning a six-month water conservation programme from January to June 2027. The drive will cover villages across the state and focus on restoring ponds, tanks, canals and other water sources.

Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Irrigation and Panchayat Raj departments would prepare a joint action plan. The programme will include 355 categories of works, covering activities such as removing silt from tanks, repairing damaged structures and improving water storage.

The government also aims to create rural employment through these works. It plans to use the employment guarantee framework and involve villagers, especially agricultural workers.

The programme is expected to begin before the next monsoon. The government aims to improve water availability while creating useful assets in rural areas.
