Strong Earthquake Hits Indonesia’s Sumatra

A strong earthquake with magnitude 6.5 jolted the port city of Indonesia, Padang on early Thursday. According to officials, there are no immediate reports of injury and damage. The quake created panic among the people. Officials said that there was no threat of a Tsunami. The earthquake also sent tremors as far as the neighboring country, Singapore.

According to USGS, the massive quake was centred about 155 km (95 miles) south of Padang, off the coast of Sumatra island at a depth of about 50 km (30 miles). Further details are still awaited.
