Washington: The United State officials announced that it will take strict action over 300 Indian student who were caught in a sting operation for allegedly trying to extend their stay in country illegally.
State Department officer, Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner said, “most of the students have come on student visas, but later some of them sought to extend their stay in the US is my understanding. ”
As many as 306 students were caught in this sting operation conducted by Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Toner said only those Indian students who tried to tried to extend their stay in the US illegitimately will be taken to task and no genuine student will be harassed.
“They did come here legitimately, on legitimate visas. It’s not about a visa issue. It’s about once they were here in the United States, they then sought through a criminal organisation to extend their stay,” Toner said.
