Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced that the Congress government is committed to promoting the film industry in Telangana, supporting not just Telugu cinema but also Urdu films. He made these remarks during a media conference held to discuss the upcoming Gaddar Telangana Film Awards.

Speaking at the event, Bhatti Vikramarka said, “Gaddar was a legend who made the heartbeat of Telangana universal through his songs. From children to the elderly, everyone has sung or imitated his songs. His contributions to the Telangana movement are unforgettable. It is a matter of pride to organize film awards in his name. The government will extend full support to ensure the awards ceremony is celebrated on a grand scale.”

Telangana Film Development Corporation Chairman and prominent producer Dil Raju announced that the Gaddar Telangana Film Awards will be held on June 14 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC).

After a gap of 14 years, the government has revived the film awards by forming a 15-member jury committee, with veteran actress Jayasudha appointed as the jury chairperson.

According to officials, 1,248 nominations have been received across various categories — 1,172 individual entries and 76 entries in feature films, children’s films, documentaries, film criticism, and books related to cinema. The jury is currently reviewing these nominations to select the awardees.

The initiative reflects the Congress government’s renewed commitment to nurturing Telangana’s vibrant cultural and cinematic heritage.
