In another gunshot, a 25 year old bank employee opened fire at his workplace in Louisville, the United States (U.S.) of Kentucky. Occurred on the 10th of April, Monday, the gunfire incident left five people dead and at least eight people injured.
The accused gunman identified as Connor Sturgeon live streamed the whole killing incident, following which the police found the gunman and encountered him. Getting into the details, the gunman was an employee of Old National Bank, located downtown in Kentucky’s largest city. The reason behind this open fire at colleagues is unclear, however it is suspected that the news of losing job triggered the accused, following which he attacked his colleagues.
The Interim police chief Jacquelyn Gwinn Villaroel held a press conference after killing Connor Sturgeon and said, “His weapon of choice was a rifle.” She further added, three people were in critical condition, including a police officer who took a bullet to the head.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Meta, the social media app’s parent company, told AFP that it was “in touch with law enforcement and quickly removed the livestream of this tragic incident this morning.” The incident triggered a massive police deployment outside the Old National Bank building.
The rising cases of gunshot and open fire is raising alarming concerns. This was the latest spasm in a gun crisis that has left more than 4,900 people dead of firearm related violence in 2023. The United States, a country of around 330 million people, is awash with some 400 million guns, and deadly mass shootings are a regular occurrence.
