The Telangana Government reduced the amount to be paid to get a legal and safe water connection in all the Municipalities and Municipal Corporations in Telangana.
Speaking about the new reduced rates, individuals below poverty line (BPL) will get the water connections at Re. 1 only. On the other hand, the other residents of Telangana can have the connection by paying a minimum amount of Rs. 100.
On the 14th of February, K. Chandrashekar Rao(KCR,) the Chief Minister of Telangana, signed the papers regarding the reduction in the deposit money required to take a water connection.
As of now, the deposit money for the connections is Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 10,500 for the connections inside the house.
Under Mission Bhagiratha, the Telangana Government made a promise to provide safe and clean drinking water to every town, village and district in Telangana.
KCR said, the deposit amount was reduced to ensure people who did not opt for the connection due to high rates, take the connection. He said, “Reducing the deposit amount would be a burden on the exchequer and only a nominal deposit amount will be as the aim of the government is that people should consume only safe drinking water and be healthy.”
According to sources, 7.9 lakh connections are required to be given, but only 1.2 out of the total have been given.
With this initiative, more people will choose to get a tap connection in the State.
