A landslide in Manipur’s Tamenglong district killed nine people on Tuesday. According to the officials, bodies of only seven victims have been recovered.
Several incidents of landslides have been caused by rain, since the onset of the monsoon season. Perpetual downpour has caused landslides in various parts of the North Eastern State. According to District officials, the torrential rains may cause more landslides along the Highways. It is feared that all the North Eastern states will receive heavy rains resulting in landslides and disruption to transport and daily life.
The National Highway (NH) 2 has been affected by landslides. This has caused a disruption to the regular traffic along the Kohima-Dimapur road. Vehicles, including heavy trucks, remain stranded on the roads.
According to a report by the Press Trust of India, a stretch along the NH-29 has been completely cut off due to the rains and landslides. The Hospital Colony also suffered a landslide.
