The Election Commission of India (ECI) postponed the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections 2022, to the 20th of February.
Previously the elections were scheduled on the 14th of February. However, the ECI rescheduled the election dates, after conducting a meeting, on the 17th of January, Monday.
According to sources, the Chief Minister of Punjab Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi, the Indian National Congress leaders and leaders of other political parties asked the ECI to reschedule the elections, in view of Guru Ravidas Jayanti.
It is to be noted, Guru Ravidas Jayanti would be celebrated on the 16th of February.
With this change of elections schedule, the Punjab Assembly elections would be held on the 20th of February. In addition, the results for the 117 Assembly seat elections would be announced on the 10th of March.
