K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR,) the Chief Minister of Telangana, announced the deadline for Mission Bhagiratha as the 31st of March, 2019.

KCR, at Pragati Bhavan, reviewed the progress made by Mission Bhagiratha and directed the officials to achieve the goals of the programme. The Telangana Government implemented the scheme in 2016 to provide purified drinking water to every resident of the State.

According to Mission Bhagiratha, every house in Telangana will have a fixed tap and water supply. Irrespective of the landforms and areas, all the citizens of Telangana will get clean drinking water.

According to sources, out of 23,968 small residential villages, 23,947 are receiving purified drinking water through the programme. However, the target of the scheme is to provide purified water to all the tribal and Adivasi villages in Telangana by the 10th of January, 2019.

KCR praised the efforts being made to turn Mission Bhagiratha into a success. With regard to this, he said, “The day the idea of Mission Bhagiratha was conceived, there were doubts and mockery over the possibility of implementation. It is with the efforts of officials and engineers that the project is running successfully.”

Although the programme was facing financial crisis, the Government is ready to face the burden and achieve the target of Mission Bhagiratha by the deadline.
