Telangana conducted its third and final phase of Panchayat polls, on the 30th of January, from 7:00 A.M., to 1:00 P.M.
The polls were divided into three phases and the first and the second phase polls were held on the 21st and 25th of January. The first two phases of the Panchayat polls witnessed a total voter turnout of 85 %.
A total of 4,116 Panchayats were scheduled to go for the final phase of the elections, out of which, 577 declared unanimous elections. Ten Panchayat elections were cancelled due to some unknown reasons.
A senior official of the State Election Commission said, 11,664 candidates contested the Panchayat polls for the Sarpanch post in 3,529 panchayats. A total of 73,976 candidates contested the elections for 27,582 wards. The officer further said, out of the total 73,976 candidates, 8,959 were elected unopposed, whereas 118 wards cancelled the elections due to unknown reasons.
IPS officer Jitender, the Telangana Additional Director General (Law and Order,) said, approximately 50,000 police personnel were deployed to conduct the Panchayat polls smoothly.
The counting of the votes started, on the 30th of January, at 2:00 P.M.
