The Uttar Pradesh police arrested Dr. Kafeel Khan for his involvement in the death of 60 children in BRD Hospital in Gorakhpur last month. The Special Task Force arrested him today from Gorakhpur.
The court on Friday issued a non bailable warrant against the doctor and six others who were involved.
Dr. Khan was the head of the Encephalitis Ward when the incident took place and the court is charging him with medical negligence.
The doctor has also been accused of not taking action after the oxygen supply company sent a warning letter about the impending crisis.
The Allahabad High Court urged the Hospital to submit a detailed report of the infrastructure and medical facilities at BRD Hospital.
Over 60 children died at the hospital due to lack of oxygen. The incident went global when 60 children died in the span of just one week. Opposition political parties have begun attacking the government on failing to avoid the mass death of infants.
