The Hyderabad High Court has sent strict directions to the Suryapet district Superintendent of police to file a report on the allegations that a Suryapet Municipality Ward Councillor was not allowed to hoist the Indian flag on 15th August by some policemen.

The petitioner has been identified as Mohammad Shaheen Begum who is a ward councillor for Congress. She has pleaded the court to take action against four circle inspectors, a deputy police superintendent and a sub inspector.

Shaheen Begum has claimed that while she was on her way to participate in the flag hoisting on Independence day, the police men stopped her and her husband and detained them at two different police station for two hours.

She has also alleged that the police men said things like, ‘Muslims were anti-national.’

The ward councillor fights for her fundamental right from Article 19(1)(A) that declares the right to hoist the National Flag freely.
