India’s Most Wanted Terrorist Abdul Subhan Qureshi Arrested

On Monday the Delhi Police said they arrested India’s most wanted terrorist Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqeer, accused in the 2008 Gujarat serial blasts. The 2008 Gujarat serial blasts claimed the lives of 56 people. Qureshi also known as India’s Bin Laden, is a software engineer turned bomb maker. He was arrested after a brief exchange of fire in Ghazipur, Delhi.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police Special Cell, Pramod Kushwaha said, “We have found pistols and documents on Qureshi; he was trying to revive the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and the Indian Mujahideen.”

Qureshi lived in Nepal for many years and is said to have traveled using fake documents. He also traveled to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) between 2013 and 2015. It is said Qureshi returned to India to revive the terror network. Qureshi is the co founder of the terrorist group Indian Mujahideen. He is also known as a techie bomber and closely linked to the banned SIMI.

Qureshi is accused of plotting the blasts in Ahmedabad and Surat on the 26th of July 2008. Around 21 bombs were planted in tiffin carriers and motorcycles in busy markets, bus stations and hospitals. Qureshi, a father of three slipped past the Indian Police many times. Previously he was seen in Bangladesh but the police could not get their hands on him.

Qureshi is on the most wanted list of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for planning the Bangalore blasts in 2014, the 2010 serial blasts in Delhi and the 2006 local train bombings in Mumbai. Qureshi studied in Mumbai and worked there in software firms before being recruited by SIMI. His parents are said to have come to Mumbai from Uttar Pradesh for work.
