The new policy is will be in force from October 1. Pubs with microbreweries and wine lounges are expected to take little more time. “The policy will have a separate portion to give special focus to the city. The first step, however, is to launch the policy in October, the rest will follow,” excise commissioner RV Chandravadan said.

Hyderabad has an energetic and a cosmopolitan nightlife. There are many pubs and bars in Hyderabad that are open till the wee hours.

Chandravadan said chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had given an in-principle nod to the draft of the policy, adding: “I don’t think there would be much change in what we have already said.”

If all goes well, the government will notify the new policy for 2015-16 after August 15, following which the process of filing tenders for liquor manufacturing and procedure for issuance of retail trade licenses will be carried out.
Meanwhile the government is also taking steps to sell liquor for Rs 15 per 90 ml bottle.
