Under the new penalty point initiative in Hyderabad, the city’s police have so far canceled one driving license and sent notices to 64 drivers who crossed six points.
Traffic Joint Commissioner Dr. Ravinder said, “Till now only one person’s license has been canceled as he acquired 12 points. We have issued the notices to 64 people who crossed 6 points.”
The officials also stated that the ones who have reached the halfway mark are being counseled to avoid them from committing more traffic violations in the future.
Dr. Ravinder further added, “We don’t want to cancel the license of the people, but we are creating awareness among them and explaining them not accrue more points or else their license will be canceled.” The penalty point system was implemented by the Hyderabad police in August last year.
The penalty points range from one to five based on the severity of the rule broken. Drunken riding of a two wheeler will cost 3 points whereas drunk driving a public vehicle like auto, bus, etc., will be 5 points. Not wearing helmet or seat belt will cost you one point. If a person accumulates 12 points in two years the license will be suspended.
