According to the initial reports, a police constable based in Chitoor shot himself to death on Friday.
The constable was deployed at a red sander warehouse at Renigunta in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.
The other policemen present at the scene rushed him to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati but he died even before reaching the hospital.
Santosh Kumar of the 9th battalion of Andhra Pradesh Special Police hailed from Palasa in Srikakulam district of north coastal Andhra.
The constable was on a night duty at the warehouse, where red sander seized from smugglers was kept. Police were trying to ascertain the reasons behind the constable’s extreme step.
