Telangana State government efforts to raise Muslim quota for 12 percent

Hyderabad: Telangana state government had constituted a commission in March to raise Muslim quota to 12 percent in the state. Cheif Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao have asked the Deputy CM Mohd Mahmood Ali to be present in the Supreme Court to put forth the strong argument in favour of Muslim 12 percent quota along with senior advocates.

Earlier, the government had introduced 4 percent for Muslim education and jobs in 2004 but it got struck in legal dispute. The case is still pending in the Court.

Telangana government have formed a commission in March 2015 to study the socio-economic and educational status of Muslims in Telangana and recommend increase in quota as a follow-up on the TRS poll promise to provide 12 percent reservation to Muslims.

Mr Rao directed Dr Mahmood Ali and senior advocates to bring to the notice of Supreme Court the backwardness of Muslim communities in the state and the Telangana state government’s efforts to raise the quota to 12 per cent for their uplift.
