Train Derails in Kanpur, over 40 Injured

KANPUR: Barely a month after a derailment had already taken place around the same area, there comes report of another train derailed at Kanpur today morning. The Sealdah-Ajmer Express fell off it tracks when the train was crossing a bridge over a dry canal, nearly 70 km from the city. The accident took place around 5.20 am in which around 44 people were injured.

Although all of the passengers have been brought out of the derailed coaches, eight of them are supposedly in a critical state as reported by the senior police officer Zaki Ahmed. While 42 of those injured have been admitted to a district hospital in Kanpur Rural, 12 of the seriously injured have been admitted to the Hallet Hospital in Kanpur. “Our coach tilted to one side. I jumped out and saw a few coaches were derailed,” said Rizwan Chaudhary one of the passengers travelling in the train.

The Minister for Railways, Suresh Prabhu tweeted out that he would be conducting a thorough investigation for the incident.

The Ministry of Indian Railways also tweeted out helpline numbers for such emergencies.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 to those seriously injured in the mishap and Rs. 25,000 to those who suffered minor wounds.
