Nellore: Former Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy clarified that the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP government entered into a power purchase agreement solely with SECI (Solar Energy Corporation of India), dismissing claims of involvement with the Adani Group as baseless propaganda by the coalition government and its allied media.
Addressing the media on Monday, Kakani highlighted that the YSRCP government purchased power at ₹2.49 per unit, significantly lower than the ₹4.50–₹6.99 per unit paid during Chandrababu Naidu’s tenure. He accused the TDP of misleading the public despite the agreement being executed transparently and adhering to due processes.
He explained that on September 15, 2021, SECI sent a proposal, which was reviewed by an expert committee and subsequently approved by the cabinet. This agreement aimed to benefit farmers by providing nine hours of free daytime power while maintaining affordability and improving living standards.
Kakani refuted claims that the deal was rushed, asserting that the agreement included inter-state transmission costs and was thoroughly discussed. He also criticized former minister Balineni Srinivas Reddy for his remarks, asserting that cabinet meetings followed proper procedures.
Kakani accused the TDP and its media allies of running a smear campaign against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy with unsubstantiated allegations that have repeatedly failed to stand scrutiny.
