Google Celebrates 148 Birth Anniversary Of Blood Group Discoverer

The search engine giant Google celebrates 148th birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner who saved millions of lives by discovering the existence of blood groups.
In 1901, Landsteiner discovered the existence of blood types A,B, AB and O and also that people of same or compatible types can receive transfusion from one another.

The first successful blood transfusion occurred in 1907 as a direct result of his work, which led to advances in medicine, therapies, and surgery. Apart from blood groups Landsteiner also hails credit for discovering the polio virus with his fellow scientist Erwin Popper.
