Tadepalli: The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has accused the coalition government of engaging in vindictive politics by harassing social media activists. Party legal cell President M. Manohar Reddy alleged on Saturday that the ruling party is using police to target activists critical of the government, warning that such actions could lead to severe consequences.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Reddy claimed that police have been booking multiple cases against YSRCP social media activists, detaining them illegally, and denying family members access to those arrested. He accused the police of flouting legal norms, including failing to provide copies of FIRs or remand reports. Some activists, he added, are facing up to 30 cases each and are being transferred between police stations arbitrarily.
According to Mr. Reddy, around 300 activists have been arrested so far under a so-called “special drive” aimed at silencing dissent. He also criticized the inaction against objectionable posts made by iTDP activists while alleging that police are acting on the coalition’s directives.
He further claimed that individuals who filed cases against TDP during the previous government are being coerced into withdrawing them. He warned that if such practices continue, the coalition government would face dire consequences.
