Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi, the Chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) issued a statement after the judgement of the Supreme Court, regarding the Karnataka Hijab Row.

On the 14th of October, Friday, Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi said, one day a Hijab wearing woman will be the Prime Minister of India.  Taking a dig at the split judgement of the Supreme Court bench, the AIMIM Chief said, “I have said this before and will say it again…many people got stomach ache and heartache, couldn’t sleep at night, when I said if not in my lifetime then after me, a hijab-wearing Muslim woman will become the Prime Minister of this country.”

This is not the first time Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi spoke in support of girls who filed a petition against the Karnataka High Court (HC) orders, which dismissed the petition, supporting the Karnataka Government’s decision to ban Hijab at educational institutions.  After the 5th Februrary orders of the Karnataka Government and the 15th March verdict of the Karnataka High Court, the AIMIM Chief Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi shared his views in support of Muslim girls and said, Hijab wearing is an individual’s choice and educational institutions cannot stop girls, following their culture and traditions.

Now, after the Supreme Court’s split verdict, Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi once again raised his voice into the matter and took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Karnataka Government and the Karnataka High Court.  Notably, on the 13th of October, the SC bench comprising Justice Hemant Gupta and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia gave a split decision. While one judge (Sudhanshu Dhulia) supported the Muslim girls and quashed the Karnataka court orders, the other one, Justice Hemant Gupta, dismissed all the petitions filed against the Karnataka High Court orders.

Meanwhile, due to the split decision of the Apex Court bench, the Karnata Hijab matter is still pending with the SC.
