Tripura started the elections for the State Assembly on the 16th of February, Thursday.

Tripura is all set for a three cornered fight in the Assembly polls with the Communist Party of India (CPI) Marxist (M) and the Indian National Congress (INC) combine and the Tipra Motha challenging the incumbent of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bid to retain power. 

The voting started at 7:00 A.M., and would continue till 4:00 P.M., on Wednesday.  Approximately 28 lakh voters would decide the fate of 255 candidates in the fray.

The voting will be held under tight security at 3,337 polling stations, out of which 1,100 were identified as sensitive and 28 as critical polling stations.  As many as 31,000 polling personnel and 25,000 security personnel of central forces are ready to conduct the election to the 60 member House in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mr. Gitte Kirankumar Dinakarro would supervise the conduct of the elections, to ensure fair and smooth polling in Tripura.

Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, urged all voters to come to polling station and cast votes.  He took to Twitter and said, “Urging the people of Tripura to vote in record numbers and strengthen the festival of democracy.  I specially call upon the youth to exercise their franchise.”

The voting would continue till 4:00 P.M., today and the results of the elections would be announced on the 2nd of March.
