Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on the 4th of February, will formally take over as the East Uttar Pradesh General Secretary in charge of the All India Congress Committee (AICC.)
The Indian National Congress (INC) is likely to conduct a press conference, on the 4th of February, in Lucknow. After the joint press conference, Ms. Gandhi will officially take over her new post.
According to sources, Rahul Gandhi, the INC chief, chose the 4th of February for Priyanka Gandhi’s induction into the INC as the date coincides with ‘Mauni Amavasya’ and ‘Shahi Snan ’ (Royal Bath.)
According to Hindu mythology, the Mauni Amavasya is said to be the new moon day of the Magh month, which started from the 21st of January and will continue till the 11th of February.
Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are also expected to take a dip in the Ganga, before her induction into the INC.
The INC, on the 23rd of January, appointed Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia as the AICC General Secretary of East Uttar Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh respectively.
However, the opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) criticised the entry of Priyanka Gandhi into politics ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held between April and May 2019. The major parties contesting are the INC and the BJP.
