On the 6th of December, Monday, Mr. Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India, addressed the recent Nagaland incident in the Lok Sabha. 

Addressing the Lok Sabha members, Mr. Amit Shah said that the Government of India (GoI) expressed deep regrets about the incident that happened in Mon district, Nagaland.  He offered condolences to the families of the deceased and said, “A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the matter and asked to submit its report within one month.” 

According to sources, on the 4th of December, the Nagaland Security Force gunned down 13 civilians,n mistaking them to be terrorist outfit.  The incident and the killing of innocent civilians created anger and panic amongst the citizens of Nagaland, demanding strict action against the security forces.

Addressing the issue and criticism of the opposition parties, the Union Home Minister said that soon after the incident, he spoke to Nagaland Chief Minister Mr. Neiphiu Rio.  In addition, the Union Government ordered the Home Ministry’s Additional Secretary for the north east to rush to Nagaland and overview the situation.

Amit Shah said, “On suspicion of the vehicle having insurgents, the vehicle was attacked in which six out of eight people were killed and several were injured.  The Army took the two injured persons to the nearest medical centre. The locals on getting the news surrounded the battalion, burned two vehicles and attacked them. We lost one soldier of the Assam Rifles and several others were injured. “

Meanwhile, a delegation of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) met with the families of people who lost their kin in the Nagaland incident.
