After the Supreme Court (SC) announced the verdict on the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi case in favour of the Hindus, there was news the Muslim parties were expected to file a review petition.

Zafaryab Jilani, the lawyer of the Sunni Waqf Board, said his client may file a review petition as they are not satisfied with the 5 acres land allocated to them.

The Board conducted a press conference after the verdict and said, “We are quite dissatisfied…you cannot take away someone’s vested rights…We will go through the judgment in detail and with the assistance of our seniors like Rajeev Dhawan, take a call on whether to file a review…Most likely we will.”

Mr. Jilani said, “They have acknowledged that prayers were offered in the disputed land in the inner courtyard, they have acknowledged the construction of the mosque, but that too has been given to the other side. We cannot call it equity nor justice.”

However, later, the Sunni Waqf Board clarified their stance and said they have no plans of filing a review petition against the SC verdict.  Zafar Ahmad Farooqui said, “I, as a chairman of the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board, want to make it clear that the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board will not go in for any review of the apex court’s order or file any curative petition, hence any statement in this regard by any individual, lawyer or an organisation which mentions that the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board will go in for a review is not our line.”

He further added, “If any lawyer or any other person says the decision will be challenged by the Board, it should not be taken as correct.”

The long standing Ayodhya land dispute finally came to an end when the SC pronounced its judgement.

With the announcement of the SC’s verdict, the Hindus can now build a Ram temple on the land which is said to be the exact spot where Lord Ram was born.

Stay tuned for further updates.
