Bipin Rawat Vs Badruddin Ajmal: Army Clarifies Chief's Comment

Controversy over Army Chief Bipin Rawat’s comment on the rise of political parties like AIUDF continues. The Army decided to clarify this statement explaining it was not political. This comes after All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Chief Badruddin Ajmal questioned why Rawat was speaking about politics.

The Army said, “There is nothing political or religious in the talk. Army Chief just mentioned amalgamation and development in the seminar on (the) North East organized at DRDO Bhawan on 21st February 2018.”

Ajmal tweeted, “Gen Bipin Rawat has made a political statement, shocking! Why is it a concern for the Army Chief that a political party, based on democratic and secular values, is rising faster than BJP? Alternative parties like AIUDF, AAP have grown because of the misgovernance of big parties.”

This controversy began when Rawat mentioned proxy warfare in the Northeast by Pakistan. He went on to state how the Muslim population had grown in Assam. Adding that this growth is faster than the BJP back in the 1980s.

Ajmal was quick to respond to the Army’s statement and said, “If nothing political, why was Army Chief dragging a political party, in his speech, whose representatives are democratically elected by Indian citizens?”

Even All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi reacted to the Army Chief’s comment. Owaisi criticised Rawat and stated it was not the Army Chief’s work to talk about the rise of political parties.
