On the 6th of May, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mr. Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga was arrested by the Punjab Police.  He was arrested from his Delhi residence, following which tension prevailed in the region, as it involves three state police, Haryana, Punjab and Delhi.

According to sources, the arrest was made amid allegations of threatening the Delhi Chief Minister Mr. Arvind Kejriwal.  Notably, a team of Punjab Police reached Mr. Tajinder Singh Bagga’s residence and detained him.  His father said, when he tried to stop them and record the incident, the police punched his face and took his son away.

The BJP leaders condemned the arrest and said, the Arvind Kejriwal Government in Punjab is misusing its power and harassing the opposition leaders, by targeting them.  However, the Delhi Government denied such allegations and defended the arrest.  The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Government said, the Punjab police are acting in an unbiased way and the action was taken after Mr Bagga refused to cooperate with the investigation even after notices were sent five times. AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj has said they have collected information about Mr Bagga who he claims uses “obscene, toxic and hateful language” on social media.

In addition, the Delhi BJP Spokesperson Mr. Naveen Kumar Jindal claimed around 50 cops barged into Mr Bagga’s Delhi home at around 8:30 A.M., on the 6th of May and arrested  Mr. Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga.  He said,  “He couldn’t even wear his turban.  The BJP registered a complaint with the Delhi Police and accused the Punjab Police of kidnapping the BJP leader.  In regard to the first information report (FIR)  Punjab police have sent a letter to Haryana Police clarifying that it’s not a kidnapping case and that the Haryana police are stopping them needlessly.

The matter created political tension in Haryana, Punjab and Delhi.
