Amidst the power mongering chaos in Goa and Manipur between Congress and BJP, Congress emerged a single party winner in Punjab state. Captain Amarinder Singh was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state on Thursday.

After 10 years of waiting, the Congress party formed a government in the Punjab State. On the list of nine members who took the oath along with the CM is Navjot Singh Sidhu, the cricketer turned entertainer turned politician who quit BJP in 2016. The third position wherein Sidhu swore in suggests that he is unlikely to be the Deputy CM, a post on which idhu had his eye. This State can be considered a consolation price for the Indian National Congress party as the BJP has formed the government in all the other four states including Uttar Pradesh.

After the swearing in ceremony, Sidhu touched the feet of Amarinder Singh on the stage as a sign of respect. Sidhu, a prized possession of Congress acquired from BJP has not shied away from suggesting that he expects an appropriate compensation. This foot touching at the ceremony put the rumors to rest of personal ambition and showed that the party comes first and then comes ambition.

Immediately after the swearing in, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted congratulations to the new CM Captain Amarinder Singh. He wrote, “Congratulations @capt_amarinder on taking oath as CM. Wishing you the very best in working for Punjab’s development.”

The list of ministers who took oath today includes Brahm Mohindra in the first place, a senior legislator of Congress, Navjot Singh Sidhu in second place, Lawmaker Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Rana Gurjit Singh will also be ministers. Other legislature members of Congress include Sandhu Singh Dharamsot, Charanjit Singh Channi who are famous Dalit leaders and took oath today.
