The Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice N.V. Ramana, on the 24th of December, visited his native village in Andhra Pradesh.

Mr. N.V. Ramana, during his visit to Andhra Pradesh, took a ride on a bullock cart to reach his native village Ponnavaram in Krishna district.  The CJI Ramana was accompanied by his wife Ms. Shivamala Ramana. 

According to sources, after being appointed as the Chief Justice of India, this is the first time Justice N.V. Ramana visited his home town.  Notably, Mr. N.V. Ramana took the oath as the CJI in April, 2021.  At his arrival, he received a grand welcome from the villagers along with a flower shower.  As soon as the CJI’s convoy reached the borders of the village, people gathered there offered a traditional welcome.

A video of CJI Ramana taking the bullock cart ride to his village was posted on Twitter by a journalist, which went viral. 

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Government and citizens of his native village organised folk musicians playing traditional musical instruments with folk dancers.

It is to be noted, Mr. N.V. Ramana would be in Andhra Pradesh until the 25th of December.  The Chief Justice of India would spend four hours in the village before returning to Vijayawada.  In Vijayawada, Justice Ramana and his wife would visit Kanaka Durga temple.  Later, in the evening, they would attend a high tea, hosted by the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party, on the 25th of December, Christmas celebration. 

Besides, a civic reception would also be organised, where the Rotary Club of Vijayawada will facilitate him and present him with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mr. N.V. Ramana is likely to return to Delhi on the 26th of December, Sunday.
